The first day of DrupalCon San Francisco had one thing on the agenda — a summit of the people who make Drupal. Since I've been working on bits and pieces of Drupal 7 over the last year, I wanted to go. But in order to get in the door, I, like everyone, had to submit a slideshow in the format "XX in Drupal Sucks, and YY is a Solution." I could only think of one thing — how much clicking buttons in Drupal drives me nuts and confuses me.
Since everyone who came to the summit submitted a presentation and just a few were actually presented, I was surprised to get an email the week before asking me to stand up in front of the room of awesome Drupal developers and tell them why Drupal sucks. But I did, and it was pretty fun.
Later in the day, a group met up and talked about next steps, taking notes and continuing the discussion online.
For sure, my presentation was not the first time people have critiqued the interface in Drupal! Huge improvements have been made in Drupal 7 as the results of dozens of people working for several years now. There is a critical mass of Drupalers now convinced of the need to pay attention to usability. To get more involved, join the Drupal Usability group.
